Painting Copper

I'm about to paint a radiator. I was planning to use self-etching primer followed up with Duplicolor sem-gloss black (or possibly gloss black). Is this primer the right thing to use on copper?

Hi Steve,

Probably brass, eh? (copper=reddish .. brass=yellowish) I used self-etch primer on mine and semi-gloss black. Not too much paint on the fins since it will just reduce the heat exchange. I've seen lots of radiators top tanks with peeling paint so it's probably common for radiator shops to squirt them with black paint w/o any primer.

Cheers,
John

The core is copper. I suppose it's possible the tanks are brass but I'm not really sure one way or the other.
