After a month of stripping parts and paint I put the first coats of Iris Blue on my 1960 Bugeye. It's just the bottom of the car right now (wanted to get it done before flipping car back over) but it sure is a beautifull color!

Cant wait to get the topside wet sanded to perfection so that I can get some color on it to.

Just had to share!

Photo, Ben? I've never seen the naked underbelly of a Bugeye.
 
Here's a shot from this morning. All dry and very shiney! I'll roll it over tonight to get the inside ready. The PPG Concept sprayed very good but is a little thin so you have to watch out for runs.

Ben please. Tell us what you used for air and gun. Oh yea I'm impressed with the Bugeye bottom, always have liked bottoms. Looks like maybe you built a kind of spray booth in your garage? How about a few words on that as well. Think I may just want to go that route. I did find a meda blaster about 40 miles away though. Looking forward to it.
Ah would be intrested in the type and brand of paint as well, does it get clear coat after the color?

I have a smallish CH 5hp 30gal compressor. It puts out 6.5 CFM which is whats important. It only came on a few times during spraying but never dropped below the 35PSI required to run the gun. The gun is an HVLP Gravity feed gun from Harbor Freight ($39.99), once set up properly this gun lays down a VERY nice coat of paint. To spray primer a larger nozzle (2.0mm) is needed otherwise you the paint wont atomize properly.

I built a booth in my shop leaving 4' around the permimeter to walk around. I have a squirrel cage fan on the floor that blown air through my garage door. My shop is heated with GAS so I can keep the ambient temp around 70deg.

The paing I used was PPG. I used the OMNI brand epoxy primer and 2k surfacer. The top coat is a single stage PPG Concept urethane. I mix the last coat 50/50 with clear to build up a little more film and to aid in color sanding.

How many hours do you think you'll spend on it prepping for paint?
 
The body's pretty straight with the only problem area being the rear deck. I would estimate 40 hours for blocking. 4 hours for cleanup. I plan to spray the engine area, cockpit and under bonnet first. The put it together and paint the utside all at once to minimize overspray and keep the panels all the same color /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
Boy oh Boy, can't wait to get started. That is a nice body you found.
 
Wow! I live in central Ohio where humidity causes a moisture problem in the comressed air. What do you do about that w/your oufit?

I run an inline filter/water trap and drain any water from the tank before I start to spay. So far I havent had a real issue with water getting to the gun.
