We're redoing the outside of the house & GarageMahal...3000 square feet of 2-story house with porch/deck completely surrounding it & 4,000 square foot 2-story garage - all Western Cedar!

Today they're pressure washing everything - house, garage, porch, decks, 2nd stories - the whole enchilada.

Monday they start staining & painting...they figure 10 days with 5 to 6 guys.

Mexicans everywhere!!! Man, those guys rolled in here at 8am & haven't stopped!

I did get a union company's quote & it was 3 times as expensive as this small company owned & operated by some of our legal, longtime Hispanic citizens.....& this company has all the business licenses, references, bonds, etc. that the union company has - they just work for less.....& they stay busy, I contracted with them months ago & they're just now getting to me! One of the local builders of million dollar-plus homes uses them for all his jobs.

Those kids WORK.

Like *animals*.

Pics? I need that famous "This thread is meaningless without pics emoticon Tony has. Perfect timing for it. BwuHahaha.

When there's something other than my old house color to post - pictures will come along...Monday they start staining the main body of the house.

"all Western Cedar"

Curious, is it a log home? We have a log home and it is western red cedar, just about impervious (sp?) to insects.

No, timber frame with Western Cedar exterior.

I saw the owner of the big union company today at Lowe's...he asked about his bid & I politely explained how much higher than this company his bid was....his answer, "Well, I guess I could knock off part of my GC quote." GC quote!! He wanted $10K just to take the job as GC - in addition to the labor/materials cost!!

Every time I read this I'm overcome with a sudden surge of envy.
I wish my house had those proportions...

AsĂ, 2 semanas han pasado y parece que vamos a estar terminado el Lunes.

Hallelujah!! I'm so burned out...4 men, 8-10 hours a day for the last 2 weeks (even 1 full Sunday!). I can actually see the end coming! WHEW!! I don't think I've slept since this project started.

Ven el Lunes!

Well, "Lunes" came & went & we're still hard at it - though the weather slowed us down somewhat.

End of week 3 & they're finally getting around to oiling the outside doors...pair of French doors off home theater to deck, pair off master bedroom to screened sleeping porch, pair off dining room to screened eating porch, massive stained glass front door, single door onto breezeway to GarageMahal, & single door into butler's pantry from breezeway into GarageMahal.

WHEW! I've bought all the Winsor & Newton Burnt Umber oil color in Huntsville - 4-200ml tubes! No artist in the area will be painting portraits for at least 2 weeks until they get more in stock!

Plus, a few small items & the final cutting in...& we might be ready to rehang the shutters!!
