After what feels like at least a 1000 hrs. of body and prep work...I painted thebody of a 68 beetle today...will do the fenders and small bit when the weather warms a bit. anyhow, the owners are Menonite...and wanted it "buggy black" tried to talk them out of it but now it is a 1950 Plymouth black. Gawd..what a black hole color. The body was as straight as a kiwi so lots of tapping, shrinking....and oh yeah...LOTS of cussing....went into this jewel. It actually looks quite good but I'll never paint another black car. When I roll it out of the booth tomorrow I'll post a few pics.

It's going to be mighty warm in there when the sun comes out! Painting cars the color of a solar collector never seemed like a great idea to me. Esp a beetle without real ventilation.

Did they also have you paint the bumpers & chrome black so they weren't being pretentious?

That's an interesting story! I knew a couple of Mennonite girls (sisters) in Virginia. They drove a red Mustang GT. A nice one too!

Living in the middle of a Menonite area we see them often. It depends on what the church they belong to is like for rules. It can range anywhere from horse drawn Buggies only, to all black cars- no chrome, to whatever you want. But they still dress the part. It's confusing. Most of the farms have tractors, but many are not allowed to have rubber tires, so they have these medevil looking steel wheels. It makes for an intresting drive when you go through thier area.
