Paint

Does anyone have a favorite source for paint? Need GN 37 - Almond
Green for a 1967 Mini.

Also is Mini Mania's MOWOG green paint an accurate engine color?

Thanks

Bruce

I used PPG's DCC (Concept) urethane paint in GN37. I liked it but I'm not sure that the color match is quite right. Since you also hang out at MiniMania, take a look at the pictures Terry (partsguy1) has posted of his car and compare them to the avatar I use. You'll see my car is a bit brighter and "greener". I think the color Terry ended up with is more accurate. I'd email Terry and see what brand he used.

As for the engine paint, I've not looked at MM's paint. I was pleased with the results I got from using POR-15's Austin-Healey engine enamel. I think they may have renamed it BMC green since a number of us were using it for other BMC cars... not just Healeys. You can see how my engine turned out in the picture below and judge the color for yourself.

Hi Bruce. I am so jealous of where you live! Some of the best diving I have ever done was your back yard. We stayed at Capt Jack's Resort(?). Walk right out of our room to the dock and into the water! Not many roads to drive your Mini on but beats the heck out of Chicago!!

Doug - engine looks great. Your car body looks very close to the color of mine. Yet when I compare it to the inside of my doors which I think are original (could be wrong) it is more towards olive drab. I suppose no one ever gets it exactly like the color was in the 1960's. Thanks for your help.

Peter - nice place to live but my cars are kept in NJ. They would rot to nothing here in a year or less. Glad you had a nice time on Bonaire.

Bruce, I agree, my car's new paint is much brighter and greener than what I removed. Next time you're on the MM board, look for Terry's posts (partsguy1). Last month he had a thread going with some really nice photos of his car parked in some scenic locations. I think you'll agree that his car captures more of the olive drab color than mine does. Terry's very good about sharing information and responding to emails. I'm sure he'd be happy to tell you what paint he used.

Bruce, Terry posted to your thread on MM. He didn't offer the information directly but he did direct you to another thread where the color code topic was discussed at length.

Thanks. I will check that.

Bruce
