I will be prepping the interior of the body for paint and would like to know the opinions of the forum on primer. The interior will be clean of any grease and tar that was applied to the floor. Primer will be applied to raw metal, original paint and maybe a skimcoat of putty on some pitted spots. How do I prep for Primer and what should I use?

Once primed & will be painting the car the original Teal Blue for a 1971 Midget. Can I go to my local supplier and pick up the paint and how do I ask for it? MG Teal blue? If I have the code number will they know what it means? It is a reputable place called Albert Kemperle and I hope they could cross reference it.
How should I prep for paint & what type of paint should I buy?

When I wanted to get some paint for my 76 MG Midget I took it to the local body shop supplier. They had a system from DuPont which takes a picture of the paint with a fancy camera and then translates that into a formula to duplicate the color you have. They then mixed the color for me and it was perfect.

They were able to make the spray on type for the body shop to use, and a one part for me to use in various places I was doing myself.

If you have spot on the car with the original color in good shape this would be a good way to get an exact match.

If you are going with a specific color be sure to find out what paint lines it is available in. Not all colors are available in all lines. Once you know what type of top coat you are going with then you can get a compatible primer; it doesn't need to be the same brand, but the solvent bases must be compatible. The counter people at the paint store should be able to help, but you need to find the right individual that is willing to explain things. If you are going to have someone spray the top coat then I would talk to them first. I hope this helps
