Originally were the wheel wells and underneath the bonnet
painted the color of the car?

My bonnet has those areas painted black. I've also seen them painted in color.

Anyone know?
 
My 65 front wheel wells are painted the body color the rear are painted black, this is all original. I am currently in the process of removing the under coating. NASTY!
