TR4/4A Paint Job on a Budget - TR4 Version

Here's a link from a volvo enthusiast on a Macco paint job.

https://www.geocities.com/bloodyl/maaco.html

I have a 1990 240 Im thinking of repainting at Macco. Not all Maccos are equal, all are independent franchises. Ive gotten one quote so far. People Ive talked to seem to say if you do prep work ahead, you can get a good job. there are two shops within an hour from my house. Went to one so far, its a modern building, new spray booth, i walked through the shop, the work in progress look OK. I think the key is removing as much trim as you can, to minimize what is masked. I m thinking of driving there, then removing all lamps in the lot.

My Spit has a Macco paint job from the previous owner, its holding up, solid white color. I wish the owner had done more prep, but its a driver not a shower.

My TR2 has a 50 foot paint job done by an amateur over 30 years ago. I MIGHT do a little color sanding on the old bird just to see what it would look like. Then a little 'over-buffing' could make it have some real patina...

A brush job is not out of the question...

It's surprising what wet sanding and a Porter cable 7424 can do to improve an old paint job.
