TR2/3/3A Paint Dab on Diff Cover

I seem to recall hearing/reading that the diff ratio was indicated by a dab of paint on the diff cover. Green (my recollection) indicated the 3.7 - my question is what color would have indicated a 4.1 diff?

Note: I am not asking how to tell what ratio the car has (that is easy enough to determine) -- just what, if any, paint marks would go with the 4.1 rear end.

I have the 4.1 in mine Geo but didn't see any paint markings when I restored it unfortunately .

I remember green with a white splotch on the rear diff cover of my TR3A. It had factory OD with a 4.1 axle. I wish I had a picture, but it's stored in SC at the moment.

After researching on several other sites -- 'green + white' seems to be the most popular answer. These days it seems okay to vote on which facts are true, so I'm going with that.

My TR3 diff was painted (or possibly dipped) in Glyptal - which is reddish - then painted black on the exterior. So one possibility is that your red stripe is simply a place where the original black over-paint has worn off.

Same here....two splotches - one green and one white. The white splotch on my OD diff is actually an off white color. Not sure if you want to reproduce to match. If you do, I can send you a picture.
