TR6 Paint color

I have a 74 TR6 off the frame and ready for paint. Still cannot decide what color to paint it. Original color was Mallard but I always wanted a red convertible. For some reason it seems wrong to paint it red. Beside the originality thing, it seems that a lot of the TR6's around here are red and don't seem unique. Any thoughts on the subject?

IMHO...Do not be concerned with originality....paint it any colour that you like in keeping with the era...but be a little different or unique in your choice...definitely not red.

"Oh look another red sports car" some times it's good to be different.

My 2 cents. Mallard and Tan are one of the most striking combinations on a TR6. There are not a lot of Mallard cars out there....red on the other hand, are a dime a dozen.

Having said that...it's your car and if you want red, you should paint it red. Since it won't be the original paint on the car, and technically you don't need to paint it a stock Triumph red, that opens a whole lot of options for finding a " different" red to make your car stand out.

Cheers

Another highly unusual combination was the 1972 Emerald Green with a gray interior. IIRC, it's a 1-year only combination, and very distinctive.

Jimmy,
While I'm an original paint color person I do like to look at different color combinations I see that get my attention. Dodge Viper red along with Porsche Guards red are a couple of my favorites when using a tan interior...Alfa has some really good looking reds as well. Color is such a personal thing and you should paint it the color you like, nothing else!

How about maroon with metallic. Goes great with tan. This is a Dodge truck color.

How about deep red (maroon) metallic? Looks great with tan.

Carmine red, tan interior. Beautiful!

Took a few pics of my Recently finished (last week) TR6 this morning. It was BRG and I wanted something different after having several BRG cars over the last 45 years and like has been mentioned already I did it for me to enjoy. It is Moss Green metal-flake with a parchment with brown interior. There are a few things to finish like the new custom steering wheel in burl walnut to match the rest of the wood trim.

Randy, are you going to be OK with the storm coming in? My aunt and uncle live in Rockport where it looks like the eye coming in there. They did go to Huston but it is looking like that might not be a lot better and they are considering moving further north.
