Ah100M,
the switch was made in December of 1955. By the vin number, mine was built in mid-summer of 1955. Carmine Red is a propper colour for this car.

here is the quote from British Heritage:
"I'm afraid the build record for your car is missing so we are unable to produce the certificate."

Had they offered to do more research, for an additional charge, with further information I would have taken them up on the offer. They credited back my credit card just a few days after they recieved my request. Apparently it's a dead end.

I'll go over to the bodyshop tomorrow and take some pictures. Should be very nice and shiny. Then the real fun begins---------assembly.

Hi- My two cents worth- Rinshed- Mason is still around- They're going by the acronym R-M and are part of the BASF conglomerate. That's the same outfit that produces Glasurit. They have a website- basfrefinish.com . You may track something down there.

Sopp: So what was the eventual modern formula for Carmine Red? The BHT certificate on my 55 BN1 indicates Carmine Red, and I'll be ready for paint soon as well. Any info you can share would be greatly appreciated.

I'm hoping that a scanned copy of the formula is attached to this post. I always have trouble posting pictures.
 
Now if I can only remember how I did that!!!!!!!!

As I wrote in an earlier post, ICI is now Autocolor. We found Carmine Red, 8616, under Austin Rover 1952-1972. Label on the can says Autocolor. It's a one stage paint that looks very much like I remember the original paint on all my MGAs, MGBs and other British cars I've owned. It color sands and rubs out quite easily.

I should have the suspension put together enough to bring it home for assembly in a week or so. At that time I'll take some pics with it outside------if we have sunshine, to give you a better idea of how the color and the paint look.

I think I see a light at the end of the tunnel.......
