Found these three paint sploches on the diffy....center is red, left is cream or yellow, right is green. What do they mean?

Extracted from a collection of abridged Triumph TR3 Service Bulletins published and sold by TRF (RFP57):

The TR axle ratio can be determined by visual examination of the rear axle cover.
3.7:1 ratio (37T x 10T) has a dab of green paint on the cover.
4.1:1 ratio (41T x 10T) has a dab of green paint and a dab of white on the cover.

I suspect this practice continued at least into the TR4 models. I'm not sure what the significance of the red paint is.
