Working on a old mini woodie that someone else restored for my client 2-4 years ago. Starting to find some amazingly bad repairs. One panel had filler 1/2 inch thick, plastic filler over non welded holes. Panels weld together wrong, one panel was 1/2 inch off that was why they cheated with the thick filler to make up the difference. What a fricken hack!
The sad part of this story was it was a referal from a friend of the guy's.
I thought of a suggestion if you want to see if a shop is right for your restoraton, ask to see some of their old completed jobs. Their older restorations should hold up pretty well over time, ask to see something 5-10 years old then you will know how you car will hold up by then. Only good work lasts.
Don't be surprised to see a few flaws, there are so many steps in a restoration. The majority of the job should look very well indeed.
You can hide really bad work under fantastic paint but it will not hold up with time!
