Time to change the rear end!

The Ring gear is shot along with the seals & bearings

I still cant belive they used a leather gasket for the pinon seal! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif

I picked up a complete rebuilt one from John at quantum
(got a great price since he didnt have to change the ring gear in it)
I also ordered the Polyurethene Differential Mount Kit!

I guess I was due!
It seems like just when ya get everything going right ...

Oh well its the only thing I havent changed on the car

the Joys of LBC ownership!

All early seals up until the 60's were leather. Early tanners like Trostel were suppliers of seals to all of the domestic auto makers, too.

Ok so I purchased a rebuilt differential & rear axel assemblys from John at Quantum Mech.

They are being installed today along with a new speedo cable. (I have to send the Spedo out for calibration)

So now the entire drive train is compltely rebuilt.

5sp type 9 trans., new driveshaft rebuilt diff. & 2 new rebuilt axel assemblys.

So far the engine is running well with the webber dgvs, and new head gasket, upgraded valve guides, set up new aluminum rocker assembly. All the wiring has been repaired along with the alternator, all guages are in good working order.
Oil pressure is at about 50+-.

New fuzzy dice...
.
What, your factory fuzzy dice were worn out too? I though those things lasted forever.

A sizeable list. But it's like a house, when you get to the end of the last renovations, the first ones need to be redone. Hate to say it, but there's always something.

Well now; that's a right good start at getting things
sorted out. You're well on your way to a reliable car.

Of course, how scary it might be for your next breakdown
depends which end of your drive shaft falls off while
cruising at 60+ mph. The tranny end falling off can be
a real white knuckle ride.

But then having a trailing arm come off at 40 mph. going
around a bend ain't that much better.

Your radiator falling off in stop/go traffic can be a bummer
as well. All that steam in the front makes it hard to pull
over.

The ever popular fuel pump dies on you at highway speed
surrounded by 18 wheelers is another good TR6 trick
breakdown.

And golly, how could I forget. Let's blow up the coil every
40 miles! That's a traffic stopper for sure.

Are you truly positive those new U-joints were pressed together properly? OOOpps.

Just funnin' with ya!

best wishes and happy motoring.

Geez....

You keep track of WAY too much stuff...

It's more fun when you DON'T know how much you've spent...and much easier to rationalize your expenditures.

By the way...I haven't replaced that much stuff on the last 20 cars I've owned! (but, of course, I don't really keep track of that stuff!)

One more thing...if you throw away your catalogs and only order parts that you REALLY need this hobby is much cheaper...IMHO.

It's my only real Vice, My wife loves driving in it with me.
When I started this paticular project I just kept tract of all my resipts and maintained a log. As far as how much money I spend, thats not an issue, I told her I was going to get the car in good running condition. Little did SHE know it's a British money pit!

I really enjoy tinkering around and keeping the beast alive.

Dale you sure you have had your share of breakdowns, I've been pretty lucky with this car so far (Knock Wood) only had one breakdown on the highway when the slave pushrod popped out.

I'm confident of John at Quantum mech. workmanship & can rest assured that the U joints were pressed correctly!

I should be running again by this weekend, my luck it'll rain the rest of the summer!

But I have the best looking, up on jacks,
non-functional Triumph TR6 in the entire Caribbean.

Ya gotta have a sense of humor to own a TR6.
My 17 month old tires still have nubbies on them.

d

Because I don't keep track of how much I spend on the TR3, i'm very happy with the car. If I knew how much it has cost me I might think I needed to buy the boat instead.

you never really own a boat!

although I did spend a boat load of money on my TR6, I still love it!

Hey Bill:

I am very much aware the very large cost $$ to
me to drive the very few miles I have gotten in
the past 19 months. The frustration level has cost
me even more.

So.......................

I did indeed buy a nice boat and I continue to attempt
to get my 1969ish TR6 in operational condition. But with
the boat I get to go places, see things and have fun with friends. It takes the sting from the TR6 away somewhat.
