Joe gave me a catalogue today from Paeco. They sell stuff for tuning lots of different imports, including many LBCs. It was listing a bunch of stuff the the TR6, and for ~$10k, you can get a stage 4 engine kit: a full on race engine putting out 275 hp. I don't have the money to do this, and it would make it to tempramental for me, but wouldn't that be something? A 275bhp TR6....

But has anyone ever ordered anything from them? If so, what was your experience?
 
PAECO has been around since *I* was in high school. I've heard both good and bad about them. It's my sense that they were better about 20 years ago.
A 275 HP engine in a TR6 would likely require race-gas (to the tune of at least $10 per gallon in my neighborhood). Something with about 125 to 150 HP would probably be more suitable for a street car.

PAECO has been around a long time. Everybody who has been around sports car racing for a while has either heard of them or knows somebody who knows somebody who’s dealt with them somehow.

I like having a PAECO catalog around because it’s a pretty good indicator of the relative cost of various types of engine work. Overall most people seem to think their prices are on the high side but that’s what you should expect to pay for high performance engine work. It’s a good tool for planning a project budget.

Whether you actually have them do the work or not is a personal choice. I always recommend checking with as many people as you can find who have actually dealt with a company before giving it any business, especially in the area of automotive performance. I also recommend only dealing with vendors who are quality and customer service oriented. (That leaves out a great many vendors in the automotive performance world!)

That high HP engine package is only for racing, specifically short course sprints. Maximum power with little longevity and no drivability is to be expected. It will also self destruct with anything short of racing gas.

IMHO the best street motors are built with the durability of an endurance racing motor and de-tuned to run on pump gas with broad torque and good drivability under real world driving conditions.
