Putting on a new padded dash-
Any secrets for doing this ?
Should I start at the windscreen
by placing the tab from the padded dash underneath
the rubber seal and work rearward ?
Harry

I pulled the windscreen to do this -- I think it would be difficult to do with the windscreen frame & seal in place (if that is what you're saying).

So I need to raise the windscreen just enough
to put the forward part of the dash pad underneath
the rubber sealer ? I'm restoring this thing & have no glass
in the windscreen part.
Harry

Harry, I would remove the windscreen entirely. That way you'll get familiar with those brackets underneath, and can clean them up and oil them (for the next guy in 15 years), and you can replace that rubber gasket underneath the windscreen as well. $25 from Moss.

About those brackets under the dash--if they're frozen you can remove the bolts, grease them up, then rotate back and forth by applying a good wrench over a rag to avoid marring them.

Back to the windscreen assuming not already moot: Another reason to remove it is that you will want everything clean, and plenty of room to work and be set with your heater vents ready to re-fasten, the vertical dash screws that go back up into the dash frame, etc. I also found this to be an easy system for the glue stage. I'm trying to recall but believe I used a silicone glue on the upper part of the dash (sparingly as it doesn't need much at all), and contact cement on the flap that wraps back up under the dash. I wanted that tight, no wrinkles, smooth and clean.

I also wanted another person there to be sure the dash was fitted square and the windscreen fitted correctly as well.

Everyone has their own system so whatever works best for you. Good luck.

Thanks or the input. This is a frame off so everything is
clean, etc. The painter bolted the window frame with the rubber gasket
tight. My problem at the moment is getting the frame to slide up
out of the brackets ! Any ideas on that process would be welcomed.
Assuming I don't use up this month's allotment of curse words
I hope to get it done soon !
Thanks for mentioning the gluing of the dash. Any area in particular
for that ?
Harry

One little tip. Do a test fit of your new dash top before you get the glue out. The first one that I bought which I think came from Moss had cutouts for the demister vents which were way out of line. I had to go and get a second one which did fit. Nothing worse than having the glue on and finding it does not line up!

Harry,

Did you loosen the bolts attaching the bracket to the body? It's been a long time but I thought there was some clamping action there as well.
