I'm no pro on Packards, but I'm guessing this one is around 1950 (making it about as old as me!)

Seen near Somerville, New Jersey on Rt. 206 about 10 miles north of Princeton.

I'm thinking ... 1948 or 1949 Packard Eight (or Super Eight) sedan. I think the 1950 models had a long side-strip of chrome.

Personal thought: That flying swan ornament is at the top of my list. Can't see the one in Nial's photo however.

Packard didn't use year models they used series models. That is a 22nd or 23rd series, making it made from about 48 to 50 I think. I am by no means an expert on Packards. I can't remember what differences there are between those two series, though I do know where one is and have thought about buying it once or twice.

Tom the hood ornament is there in Nial's photo just really hard to see, it looks like a black speck above a silver speck in the photo.

Walt - your eyes are better than mine! I have trouble with black specks and silver specks, as the white specks keep falling across the screen :rolleye:
