Jimmy was a local and had been involved with aviation forever. That in itself is a tragic loss. This kind of accident involving spectators at the air racing spot on the planet is another.

A terrible accident for everyone involved. Really awful.

I just saw that - very tragic.
I almost hate to bring this up,but why is it
that many people can get killed at an air show,
& it goes on the following year, but if this happened
at a car race/autocross/hillclimb,it would be banned
forever after the incident?

It was breaking news with ten minutes left in our local news cast, then I went out for the evening, but very tragic especially when it effects the crowd as well...

You had to mention that, but good point...

After the NJSB investigation, which could take many months, a possible solution might be found of what happened. Some say it looked like he tried to turn the aircraft away from the crowd. A heroic maneuver. As in a lot of aircraft accidents, we might never know the true story. PJ

Mostly because that isn't always true.

Fans have died at different kinds of racing events but they continue on. Last year (for example) a fan was killed at a top fuel drag race in Arizona, but the racing continued.

At LeMans in 1955, 83 people were killed in a terrible crash. They learned from what happened and in 1956 the race went on.

Sure, some events are forever changed because of accidents. It happens. But most people recognize that accidents happen. You learn from them (if you can), and move on.

If we stopped doing everything where some horrible accident might happen, we could all just sit home and watch paint dry. Accidents happen.

Until someone died from paint fumes. Astral projection is the only safe way to live.

My friend Kevin lost his prop last year nearing 400 mph, had to make a dead stick landing. Yikes! These pilots know how unsafe it can be. I won't go to those affairs.
