Going out to run the chassis and check things out tomorrow. I have set the od switches as per the manual. Do I switch it on before I run it or switch it on after I am in 4th. Does it come on as soon as I switch it on or do I have to let off the gas to engage it. By the way Dave I made up my mind on alternators and went with a 3 wire small Hitachi and put the Delco single wire on my antique John Deere tractor. Skip

Skip,

I switch it on when cruising along in 3rd or 4th. If it is already on when you start then the gear change from 2nd to 3rd will actually be 3rd overdrive and it's a wide gap.

It should come on right away (within one second anyway), no need to let up on the gas.

A good way to double check how far the gas pedal needs to be pushed before it cuts off is to do the following:

Sit in the car and turn on the ignition switch. Move the gear lever left and right when it is in the middle of the gate. Everytime you move it to the right you should hear the overdrive switch actuate. Then press on the gas slowly, moving the gear shift lever back and forth until the throttle switch cut-off actuates and then you won't hear the OD switch making noise anymore.

Cheers,
John

Hi Skip.
Good move on the alternator.

The OD should come in anytime you you are in third or fourth gear & move the dash switch to OD. You don't have to let off the gas. It will come out of OD any time you shift out of three or four, or if you move the dash switch to normal, & the gas pedal is depressed a bit when in three or four.
