Overdrive [Type A] brake ring gaskets

Since there was never a gasket on either side of the brake ring, is there a downside to using Permatex elastomeric spary gasket on the four mating surfaces?
 
Probably not, as long as you keep the application as thin as possible, maybe only resorting to one (1) face of each of the two (2) joints.

I think the last overdrive I assembled, I used Hylomar brush in can type with just a wisp of a coating.

Regardless of the components being assembled/sealed, I have long been a proponent of only using the thinnest smears of sealant on the flanges or mating surfaces. The manufacturers instructions of "...apply a 1/4" bead of sealant" were written by marketing types intent on selling much more product than anyone needs. All that stuff that gets squeezed out on either side of the joint was just wasted, and sometines, that excess stuff blocks important tiny orifices on the inside, like the one that caused a very short life for the new timing chain tensioner of an MGB engine (same pattern/engineering as the Healey C- Series, only in 2/3 scale) I built back in the 70s.
