TR2/3/3A overdrive solenoid

Od stopped working so I pulled of the cover to check what I thought would be loose linkage.
The solenoid engages, nothing loose from original setup that worked perfect for the last 12k miles .The solenoid is not giving the required travel.
I can push the plunger up just a little with my finger when engaged which looks like the extra travel I need.Is this normal or do I need new solenoid?
Thanks
Tom

It should move all the way to a hard stop at the top.

Sounds like it has some crud in it, or the internal switch is stuck, or something is binding in the lever/operating valve components, or the lever came loose and it is out of adjustment. I would remove the solenoid, check it, and if it's OK, see if the operating lever assembly works smoothly. Then, put it back together and adjust the operating valve for standard 30 mils of movement. Can't be much else.

Thanks for the reply Steve.
I looked at everything again and the solenoid was going to full stop at top but I mistook the lever play for the plunger.
Started from scratch and adjusted to just engage and disengage which put the lever a few degrees from where I marked it before loosening.
Maybe just compensating for od clutch wear? I dont know if this is commom after 12-13k mi but it seems to be normal again.
Tomorrow the cover goes back on a hopefully a good test drive.
Thanks
Tom
