Overdrive solenoid rubber piece on a BJ8 ?

I have finally got around to working on my overdrive.
I have a new solenoid from Moss that I am going to install and it has a rubber bellow piece around the operating rod. My car didn't have one when I took it apart. The base of the rubber piece appears to be too thick to use on my BJ8. Is this piece supposed to be used on a BJ8 ?
Also, what are you supposed to use as a seal in the grove of the transmission tunnel cover ? I originally used used RTV and will not be using that again for this application.
Thanks,
Ed

Hi EdK, yes there is a dust shield on the plunger. I have never found a use for it on the BJ8. There were and stil may be available from some sources a set of rubber seals that fit over the tunnel flanges mounted to the floor, I simply made mine out of neoprene rubber strip material ---Keoke
