Overdrive question on BN2

Hey y'all,
Overdrive has been working like a champ for sometime. But, last weekend went to toggle it on in 4th gear, not accelerating too hard, just normal, and felt like it was trying to go into O/D but going in and out if that makes sense. Engine didn't race but like in neutral. Toggled off and runs fine. Getting electric to the solenoid okay and figured it might be the solenoid gone bad as was allowing the O/D to go in and out somehow. Got the tranny tunnel off and checked the solenoid but it is moving the operating lever up and down as required. Took the solenoid off and it appears fine. I did have one go bad a couple of years ago where plastic melted within the solenoid. But this one looks good. As I said, everything has been working perfectly and now this - any ideas ???
Thanks,
Mike

Assuming your oil level is ok, see if you can beg/steal/borrow a pressure gauge which will take the guesswork out of fault finding. Lots of tutorials online about how to improve pressure, it might be something simple that doesn't require removal of the OD. Andy.

Assuming the pressure is good 470 to 490psi and the oil level and the filter is clean , you need to check how much lift the little steel ball has on the end of the operator shaft . This can be tricky . You will need a vernier caliper or a depth micrometer . When the solenoid engages the ball must lift 3/64ths of an inch or the O/D will not engage period . That whole use the drill bit in the side hole of the casing blah blah blah is BS it dont work theres just too many linkages and wear etc etc for that to be accurate .
Is set my overdrives up by this method as described here and they always work www.team.net/www/healey/tech/big_hly/od/t-sw-adj.html

Theres a ton of info in this guys tech articles about O/Ds and they work . happy reading :encouragement::encouragement:

Thanks guys, going to install a new solenoid tomorrow and hoping that is it as was working perfectly before. If that doesn't work, looks like I need to do some more reading and testing !
