Hi everybody, I am a newie of this forum, happy owner of 3000 Mk I. I found that the overdrive does disengage after a while (let's say few minutes of running). Anybody within this forum has ever experienced such a problem?
Thanks
Fabrizio

Sounds to me as though the oil pump in the OD is not building enough pressure. Continuous oil pressure is required to hold the OD in engagement. When your oil is cold, the pressure is adequate, but when it warms up, the pressure falls.

Yes, I had this problem and solved it by cleaning out the accumulator and the operating ball valve accessable from the side cover of the OD and the top plug. Ther was a lot of sludge in the oil in the accumulator.

So.. it sounds that just cleaning some parts it should work while on the other hand checking the oil level could be the right answer..well I'll let you which one works on my car.
thanks.

Well checking the oil level certainly is a requirement .

However also checking the oil pressure is required. The unit should build and hold an oil pressure of 300 to 450 LBS--Fwiw Keoke

thanks.

Welcome to the Forum FAB. All of the suggested remedies need to be explored. However, I read an article one time about a possible cause. It involves removing the tranny cowl and on the OD relay on the left side remove the cover. Inside you'll see a rod dropping down. That rod should strike a rubber buffer at the bottom. If the rubber buffer is missing or flattened it needs to be replaced. I used a teflon screw that fit the hole in the bottom and it stopped the OD from dropping out.
