TR2/3/3A Overdrie assembly

Folks,

I had a couple months lapse in rebuilding a Type A overdrive due to a health issue.

Upon reassembly, I could not find the spacing washer that goes between the sunwheel and the sunwheel thrust washer. So, to determine what thickness of spacing washer I needed, I followed the shop manual’s instructions on assembly the overdrive with an thicker spacing washer and then measuring the gap between the rear casing and the brake ring. After much adjustment of the nuts to result in an even gap, to my surprise, the results were that the end float was within tolerances without a spacing washer. My guess is that this overdrive never had a spacing washer, so I never lost it.

Has anyone had this experience?

Thanks.
Ron

Ron - just to make sure, there is only one spacing washer in the assembly next to a thrust washer - and yes I think it should be there. However it is on top of the sun gear assembly (towards the front of the car).
