1. Drain fluids
2. remove U-joint at differentail
3. Remove shifter
4. Remove Radiator
5. Break all wires
6. Break all hoses
7. Remove Radiator & Hood
8. Remove motor mounts
9. Disconect slave clinder
10. Transmission Mount? Simple bolts

Is this pretty much correct way to go about this ? shifter logical mounted so it is eeasly removed ? Need to pull three and install one. so I should be able to get a badge in this area soon

Also on my junker the brass Water temp fitting is really tight, are these a problem to save ?
 
Um, concerning #'s 5 & 6. You should make every effort to not break anything... :thumbsup:
 
I would also disconnect the exhaust manifold/header and intake manifold/carbs before pulling the engine! (Makes life much easier!)
 
-Ground strap by the tranny-

-Always try to use a 5/8" "flare nut" wrench on that temp gauge bulb, makes it last MUCH longer!

I'd remove the tin cover that surrounds the shifter as well, you can wiggle the tranny out without this, but it easy enough to wack it during the process, and put a dent in it. I staterd to tell you disconnecting the driveshaft wasn't needed, but then I remembered on my race car I have the sheetmetal under the tranny removed, which you can still pull the engin without disconnecting the driveshaft as you will simply slip on the slip joint on the front of the driveshaft, but getting it reinstalled with closed tunnel might be more difficult. The transmission will have tow 5/16 bolt form the bottom of the crossmember and then two on the side of the trany tunnel. Al in all, a Spridget is simple engine pull, and hopefully you'll enjoy and learn from the process.

Line for Oil Pressure gauge. Don't gorget it.
 
On my absurdedly long "2nd Gear" thread, (It's about four pages back now, I think) is buried halfway down page three, the sequence I went through to pull the engine, step by step and wire by wire. It was a 1500, but should still be really close. It's not the only way to do it, but you won't accidentally leave anything connected...
 
Ground strap from motor to frame. Many midgets lifted off the ground by this strap :wink: Seems like the haynes manual does a good job with this. Do a step by step on that and you can't be far off. Going by memory you are bound to forget something.
