Couldn't believe it. I'm thumbing through an old Motor Trend magazine (June 1959), looking for an article about a cross-country drive by the "new" Mercedes-Benz diesel sedan, the 190D.
Something in the article rang a bell. Then I looked closely at a picture at the top of the first page. A man and two boys looking at the car as it stopped on its way across the country.
That man is my father; the boys are me and my brother, age 10 and 8.
What an incredible picture to see. Talk about being gob-smacked. I even remember my dad's coat, and the "ear loppers" we used to wear as kids in cold weather. Dad was personnel manager for Sinclair Oil Company's southwest division in the 1950s-60s. He was "into" cars - especially something a bit different.
There just may be something more to this than at first meets the eye ...
