Here are my photos from the annual VW show here in Calgary, I was only there for a couple of hours in the afternoon, but the VW crowd is always fun...

And what does this photo have to do with a car show? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Hey who let the 914 in there?

Oh yea - I forgot. Nevermind. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Ah yes... The much maligned Porsche 914... Or as the Europeans call it, the VW-Porsche 914 /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

uhmmmm... is was sitting inside one of the VW Vans?

On the 914, a friend of mine has one. I helped him figure out why his driver's side exterior door handle wasn't working. Then we searched for a new door handle, and were promptly greeted with Porsche like prices ($200+ for the exterior door handle). The whole door handle was fine, but there's a plastic sleeve that had broken. Fortunately for my friend I found the piece that broke on eBay for $7. What was odd to me was that none of the normal parts suppliers made the part easily accessible.

I reckon that if he ever had to do engine work, he could be greeted with Porsche prices or VW prices depending on where he goes.

What's up with all those poor VWs without any suspensions! A 1 inch bump will wreck the front end on some of them /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif

Don't guys with funky guitars and VW Buses go together so well? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

I don't know about elsewhere, but the VW folks these days just love the lowered look, certainly not my favourite... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/pukeface.gif

And Tony?

Only a short drive from Alabama to Calgary /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

It's mixed bag as with anything, IMO. I see pavement scraping and customized classic VeeDubs as often as I see stock restorations, or stock style driver builds.

I know - been there...just, we don't seem to have VW shows around here....

Tony...

The VW club here is extremely active and quite large (as I've observed from a distance), and seems to be cohesive mix of the young folks and their favourite lowriders together with the old-school folks with their non-modified classics, creating a vibrant club. I gather that doesn't seem to exist down your way?

Nial...

You flatter me, overall there is a lack of interesting vehicles here, with a few rare exceptions, somehow I still choose to live here for some strange reason

I like the commander wagon. I've never heard of that before.
My first car was a 73 VW Thing. It was a rot pile, and I never got it going, but I'd love to have another one (In better shape this time)
Cool pics. thanks.

Nial - that's a neat VW...I spent 3-1/2 years in Germany back in the early '70's & never saw one of those!

fridolions where cool cars. i have never had a chance to see one in real life. but there neat as heck. I wish our US mail used something like these

That is definitely a neat VW Van, was that photo taken in North America here? I wonder if there are any over here...
