Definitely built for looks and not speed... came in 27th out of 35 but as with anything these days.... some parents have taken this stuff a little too seriously.

exhibit one: the 600 page copy of "Engineering Pinewood Derby Cars" floating around

Exhibit two: the $90 jig someone bought to shave the wheels to still be in spec but perfectly "true"

yes... I know.... If it goes by the rules that everyone follows then it is fair.

But somewhere along the line I just wonder what Sir Baden Powell would think about this vs the true spirit of Scouting.

I remember that my Pinewood Derby car was slow and poorly carved, but I did it with a pocket knife and brushed on modeling paints.

(I was not around when my step son competed, but his dad took along a spray lubricant to spray the wheel assembly before the run but had the wrong can with him...he sprayed an adhesive in error according to the family legend.)

I like the mood and feel of the Lotus Entry. A great looking father-son project.

Thanks for posting.

About 1957 I chopped out what looked reasonably like an Offy power'd Indy racer as my entry. Blissfully unaware of Lotus until 1960. "Things changed" after that.

Nice, good luck

I think the Sir was used for dignaty

This prompted me to share my last attempt at the Pinewood Derby in which I won 1st. Place in the "Dads" class back in 1990!
