I am kinda lost without my tr3 mechanic friends, and I posteda repair I am doing on the “Other than British cars” section. Anyone that has asuggestion I would appreciate the input.

I know practically nothing about your SAAB motor (unless perhaps it is a descendent of the TR7 motor?), but my guess would be that it would be better to leave the injectors attached to the rail; and to leave the camshaft in place while removing the head. As long as you don't move the cam or crank while the timing chain/belt is disconnected, there should be no risk of bending a valve. Usually the process is to turn the crank to TDC before removing the chain/belt, so it can be put back if it gets turned while the belt is disconnected. Obviously, they need to be in the right relationship when you reinstall the head.

Digital cameras are one of the best inventions ever for the mechanics toolkit. I can't think of a new car we've purchased in the last 30 yrs. where when it was time to change out a timing belt that all the factory timing marks were exactly spot on as shown in the manual. Years ago I would just add a set of my own punch or paint marks to assure myself before disassembling. Snap away.

Thanks Randall you info is always appreciated. Yeh I wasready to line everything up and pull the gears off the cams and just leave thecams and followers in--- until someone on the Saab forum thought I would bend avalve. Sure pulling all that stuff out would perhaps be best, but it would mostlikely mean replacing the cam bearing and risking not getting everything backin the way they came out. I only paid 500.00 for the car and the followers arelike 25.00 each.
Steve I register for the UKsaab forum thanks
