Anyone here have one of these, or have an opinion as to their merits?

The one I am looking at is a 1993 300TE Wagon with 101,000 miles on it.

Any tips or ideas for me on if they are as reliable/solid as their reputation?

Thanks,

Tom

Is that a G-WAGON? turbo diesel? If it is , they are one of the worlds BEST 4wd off road vehicles made.Very expensive, locking differentials, some come with extremely low gearing for serious off road (manual gear box only). Thes trucks are hand assembled (thats why the cost). The mileage is not bad for a turbo diesel (should go 400,000mi easy). They can and do suffer from rust as i've seen. Expensive parts. Do a search for models on the internet. IMHO only the turbo diesels are worth anything.

More,
They were on my top 2 list for my Old 1981 Landcruiser bj60 diesel replacement. the canadian military ordered hundreds of these for their main transport vehicle (using the 5-cylinder turbo diesel engine, same as the dodge sprinter van(mercedes) engine i think). I replaced my landcruiser with a japanese right hand drive 1990 landcruiser turbo diesel 4.2 with 70,000mi on it. Sorry but you guys can't buy these.

These are the W124 station wagons, the intermediate series between the S Class and the smaller 190's. These are great cars, but have complex climate control systems that are now long in the tooth. Suspension rebuilds are $$$ too. The drive train is bulletproof. Have the car checked by a mechanic who knows 124's.

I have an older 123 diesel wagon from '85, w/300,000 miles and running great. I intend to run it until the wheels fall off, years from now (if it doesn't rust first).

BTW, This is not the G series SUV, which was not imported officially to the US during this time.

Yes, you have a very lust-worthy stable there.

I love my MB diesels. Here's a great forum for all things MB:
