Well - hit the first significant issue with her. Fresh fluids, cranking without coil connected, went to start her and no spark. Getting power to the coil and good ground so next stop is rotor etc. That is all good and so on to the plugs. Hmmm, pulled can to see rotor spin and no movement. Rotor is mounted properly so has to be the distributor. Pull that and notice a 1/2 circle of metal under where the distributor goes. Use a magenent to get that out and it appears to be a broke valve shim - no idea where the other 1/2 is. Uh oh.

wow. can't imagine the force needed to break one of those shims...... yikes!

74 was the awkward teenage years for a lot of cars and Mae West bumperettes were a common solution to the US 2.5/5mph bumper laws. 124's are much prettier with the bumpers removed. A more comfortable, better fitted TR that doesn't run as often. Just different is all. I'm a bit jealous.

I don't see how a shim could come out on it's own. I do see how a shim could be dropped during a lash setting service followed by a look in each direction and "I hope it goes into the pan, I hope it goes into the pan" chant.
