Orrible noise [BT7 brake cable meets u-joint]

bighly

My brake cable slackened up (moved) and rubbed against the drive shaft. Urrrrrrghhhhhhh sounded like the car was coming apart. Of course this happened when it was sprinkling on Tuesday on my way south from SF. How is this supposed to be properly routed on a BT7?

I must admit, it made playing cards in bicycle spokes seem very tame. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I will order a replacement but does this go under the car? It currently runs through the tunnel.

You may not need a new brake cable, unless it was destroyed when it contacted the U-joint. There's a bracket to hold the E-brake cable just insided the tunnel that is prone to rust and come loose, thus allowing the mechanism to contact the U-joint. Also, there's another bracket aft of the tunnel near the bottom of the frame that may have come loose. Check these first to make sure their secure, otherwise it'll just happen again.
Good Luck
