MGB-GT Orphan B Roadster and C GT in NOVA

Hi, all. I joined recently as I'm a dedicated Spridget enthusiast (Sprite MK II), and something has come up that I need to share w/ the MG people. I was in Fairfax VA picking up a sand blaster and engine hoist I'd located on Craigslist, and the circumstances are nutty. The guy's uncle moved away 6 years ago leaving his 3 MGs in this garage in the woods.

There's a 1969 B roadster in dirty but straight condition which I suspect I have to buy.

There's a similar era B roadster in primrose yellow with a hard top, in need of restoration.

There's a BRG C GT in partially disassembled condition for restoration. The aluminum bulgy bonnet is about perfect. It has 2 engines and tons of parts.

It's be a shame for these to be scrapped. He's got to have the garage empty in a few weeks. I hope to collect the '69 in the next week or so.

If there's anyone who'd be interested in the others, it may be possible to arrange something mutually beneficial involving trailers, manpower, and the sharing of resources.

Feel free to email me @ motomoron at yahoo dot com

Thanks!

Don't let that MGC get scrapped! If no one wants it let me know and I will personally find it a home, even if I have to put it on a truck and drag it to California.

Boy am I sad/glad that Virginia is too far away. That CGT sounds quite tempting... Too expensive to ship it here, though.

Not too expensive to ship if you pick it up for the right price!

I was starting to look for a more powerful car after all...

I can't think of a better classic sports car to cruise Utah's roads than a MGC GT. Well, except for a MGC GT with an electric fan kit. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Tempting, but what I don't need is a restoration project. Couldn't afford it unless I sold the Tunebug, not quite ready to go that far yet...

Hi - I'm currently in Monterey, CA, but my home is in Northern Virginia (Marshall). I will be home during the week of Oct. 6 thru Oct. 15. I haven't even thought of running this past my wife just yet, so no promises, but if nobody else comes to the rescue before then, and this fits within the needed timeframe, I would definitely be interested in talking with you about the cars.

I have a two-car garage full of crud that needs to be thrown out/given away, and I can't think of a better impetus. These could join the 1990 Mazda Protege filling space in my driveway.

Do you have any sense of the condition of the body panels, etc.? I know you're all too familiar with the humidity and winter-salted roads in the area; that stuff is heck on these cars. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif Also, it would be interesting to know his asking price.

I can also be reached here or by email at rl_stevens at earthlink.net.

Rick

Mm..my home is right nearby in Alexandria, VA, but more cars I don't think I should have!

Moto check your PM I am intersted and maybe we can share trailers somehow. Pickup both (CGT for me) in VA and drive to MD. I pick up in MD ---- maybe.
SWMBO's gonna kill me.

I NEED an MGC hood - tell me more about the MGC...location, cost, etc.

Don't we all?!?!?!

[/ QUOTE ]]Don't know but somebody opened the hood on my '69 MGC GT - the one with automatic - & bent it right at the hinges....beyond repair!

I am also interested if nobody else here takes them....I won't go there, but I'll send a truck down to get them...Definatly the C....I am a sucker for primrose so the B too, if you could get some pics that would be great.Does he have the ownership for the cars?

Oooooo...since you bought it?

I have two spare C bonnets....but they both have been put through exactly what your's has....one where the bonnet latch release while the owner was at speed....not sure what happened to the other...

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

I'm looking for a good spare....just in case something happens to either the '68 or the '69 (Gawd forbid!)

Rick - people who wander around my place when I'm not there seem to think they can just open anything they like, sit in cars, etc. as if they were theirs! Well, some people, not the guys who've known me for awhile.

I can usually find any part I need but this MGC hood is becoming tricky - I'd buy another MGC & turn it into a parts car just for the hood!

I am also sniffing around these cars. I am going to meet the guy monday or tuesday. I have no need for either of these cars, but I will not let them go to the scrapper. The photo of the CGT looks pretty grim, but even as a parts car it should be saved. The B is alleged to be a 66, and did not look as bad in the photos. I AM a sucker for an early B tho.... I have a space for temporary storage for these cars, and will post a follow up when I have seen them. There is a second engine for the C and there are supposed to be 2 good condition bonnets. Lets hope we can save these cars!!

would you mind posting a link to the pics?

They are certainly hen's teeth these days.

Although I own a V8 conversion ... it still bugs me to see an aluminum bonnet being used on something other than a C....especially one that has been, let me say, altered with louvers, hood scoops, etc. I've seen one (online) where he aluminum just in front of the chrome strip had been cut away to allow for fresh air into the air cleaner of the carb for the V8.

OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, Rick, I'm in for one of those bonnets!
