Originality versus performance

I like my solution to the problem. Have two, one to keep near original, the other to modify at will.

I might need to wait a year or so for that, to give my wife time to recover from the shock of buying the first one

I'm surprisid know one mentioned adding disc brakes all around and addition of alternator....

Well gentlemen, "personalizations", as Lin likes to call them (and he's got me doing it!), are a slippery slop. About 10 years ago, I started out to install a spin-on oil filter and ended up with my EFI Works rally tribute car. At last count, I've got just under 100 personalizations. Becareful what you start... it's like drugs to some of us... just one more fix and I'll stop!!

Cheers,
Steve

anthony7777,
If you can find a copy of the August 2010 (issue 86) of Octane Classic & Performance Cars on page 96 there are pictures and the story of a unrestored BN1 100M. It was owned since 1958 by the second owner, L. M. (Sonny) Tough. It was regularly driven until recently when Sonny voluntarily stopped driving any car. It still runs as the pictures in the article show. Sonny sold the car and it has since been auctioned. We will miss the car but fortunately will still have Sonny attending our meetings.

Boy Randy, when you present something you are very thorough. Good Job.

I bet there are a thousand things we could come up with if we let our minds wander while driving down the road in our Healeys, however, we’d probably run into the car ahead. Baring that, and keeping within my Modification Prime Directives, there are many things have fit my criteria over the years.

Instead of restating items mentioned by others or such common changes as negative ground and alternator, brake lights in reflectors, fuses and relays, or power take-off, I thought some main points might be of interest.

1. A modern Bose AM/FM/Tape/CD and optional MPC with mids (console side panels), tweeters (end of dash mounts), and a subwoofer with amp (inside the spare). It should be noted that the original console and BMC radio has been saved and a replicated console constructed to accommodate the wider Bose Head and active equalizer.

2. Hidden Supercharged Cold Air Ventilation using a 240CFM bilge blower on a 6-speed switch.

3. Improved cooling at speed through the installation of under-car panels that reduce radiator blocking engine compartment high-pressure build-up.

Creativity, ingenuity, pride and fun have combined to keep us interested in the beasts and all in the fraternity recognize and appreciates our efforts.

Enjoy and all the best,

I would say that 5L engine will never fit, but your build photos say otherwise. I'm very impressed!

I'm sure you'll check the balance before you go all out on the accelerator. I had a friend who put a 289 in his TR3 and then rolled it on his first drive, just from the unbalanced torque (I didn't say it was a smart friend ).

Greg is always good for a laugh -- "no suction... sounds like a Lucas vacuum cleaner" is one I still smile at...

I have that fan from BCS. (I powered coated it yellow)
Mine is not noisy.
Makes no more noise than the 6 blade topical fan I replaced.
Roger

Very nice. I have an older, 7-bladed SS flex fan that BCS used to sell with a shroud. The blades are larger and curved and it sounds like a Cessna at idle (but you can't hear it at speed). This one looks like a better solution.

No BOB, If you have an odd number of blades on your fan you have the least noisy and aerodynamically most efficient design,
some have used even number of blades but with skewed spacing between some of them they are pretty good too.--Fwiw--Keoke

Yeah, I understand the theory, but that thing makes a howling noise at idle--it really moves air. I suspect that's why the Nocks quit selling that model.

Yes Rob, that is what is being sold now . However, someone has taken some liberties with the original Texas Cooler design but as I said it will work OK.---Keoke

I have the Nock's 6 blade and have no problem with the noise (who has a quiet Healey?) I'm also have some hearing loss...
