Being the glutton for punishment that I am, I volunteered to help a friend re-awaken a 1969 MGB that has been sitting in a barn for 10-15 years.

Of the many systems that will require refurbishment, we have decided to replace the clutch master and slave cylinders as well as the plumbing between the two. Both cylinders are pitted beyond repair. Besides thirty bucks, what are the differences between the aftermarket and original ones? Are the original types more expensive because they are better, or just because they are OE type?

Any input would be appreciated.

If you can, use Lockheed Girling replacements. "White box" stuff can sometimes be good, sometimes not. Won't know until the crash, IYSWIM. Fettlin' with brakes is a serious deal. If it were a taillight assembly it ain't so critical.

Kinda what I thought. The difference in price on the clutch master is only twenty bucks, but the slave cylinder has a $45 price difference between original and aftermarket.

This isn't exactly a concours car, but I really don't want to have do anything twice if I can avoid it.

But don't limit yourself to the known suppliers. Some race car stuff suppliers, like Pegasus, also carry Lockheed/Girling and quite often at better prices than the notorious big three..
