Original Temp Gauge Repair

Having a temp gauge issue on my 1974 MGB. Was working fine but now just jumps up to HOT even if the temp in the radiator is perfect and the thermostat is new. British wiring! A pain.

Is there a way to rebuild or repair a nonfunctional temp gauge section of the oil/temp gauge without replacing both?
The oil sending line can be disconnected at the gauge. The temperature sensor line cannot. There may be a break in the tubing from the sensor bulb to the gauge, allowing the ether to leak out. It would be best to send the gauge with temperature bulb and line to a repair shop. This one comes from a list of shops and is in your area, but I haven't used them: British Speedo Service.

Thanks for the info! Appreciated. Am I correct in thinking the gauge comes out by removing it from the back of the dash by getting under the dash?!

I'm not sure about a 1974 MGB. It looks like it comes out the front after you loosen a couple of nuts on the backside. Since the MG uses an electric sensor, the problem may be the sensor.

You'll have better luck on the MG forum

Check the turn indicator switch first. If there is power to the right side from the switch, there may be an issue with a connection. With the Lucas bullet connectors, dielectric grease is your friend.
