GT6 Original speaker placement - 68 GT6 Mk 1?

Gents,
Anyone know with certainty (any old photos?) how speakers were installed by the dealer in a 67 or 68 GT6 Mk 1? I'm led to believe in each cubby box, left and right of the main center dash, on the inside wall of each box (closest to the gearbox tunnel). I'm trying to get back to true stock condition.

Jeff, I have been thinking about this and am certain they were mounted in the panel under the rear edge of the back window. They were on the right and left ends of the panel. The car was new when I bought it so the dealer must have installed them.

There may have also been speakers in front but I don't remember.
 
On our '67 the original (single) speaker was in a diecast housing held by a formed metal "C" bracket. The bracket was riveted to the RH inner footwell (outer wall) sort-of below the battery and to the right.
 
Could the speaker be part of the radio?

As I recall, that sort of radio was pretty much gone by the mid-1960s. Of course, in a Spitfire or GT6, such a radio would not have worked all that well, directing the sound either up into the dash area or directly down into the carpeted tunnel. :eeek:
 
I think I have seen one GT6 with a speaker pointed in the passenger side of the tunnel area.

That would have been the same as what came in my 2 TR4A's with AM radios.

that is how i recall both my '70 spit and '69 gt6, both with just "am" radios. maybe there was something fancier if you had am-fm??
 
The concensus here and in another forum is a single speaker was mounted to the firewall in the passenger footwell, likely AM only. I'm working with an original Bendix AM/FM British Leyland radio, so may go with Radiomobile speakers and covers in the cubbies left and right of the center console. I've seen photos of early roundtail Spitfires with one speaker mounted in the right hand cubby box. But, not two.

Changed my mind. I hope to go with an original speaker (one), if I can find one, with an AM radio. This after reviewing again what you guys had to report. I'll put the AM/FM Bendix in my TR6 (currently has a Blaupunkt). So, if anyone wants to part with one original speaker, and /or an original AM radio, I'm all ears!
