I have a 1953 100. It has been repainted at least once. Currently the car is painted off white. I beleive the original color was gunmetal gray.I'm planning on getting a heritage certificate to confirm this. The car was stripped to the metal by a prior owner many years ago. There are only a few spots (hidden) where I beleive I can see the original paint. I'm planning on repainting the car this winter. My questions are: since I've never seen a healey in gunmetal gray, did this color have metallic in it ? Also was it a nice color ? Is that the color pictured above ? I've checked out the austin healey site, which shows various colors on austin healey's and it was somewhat helpful. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

The colour above is "Ice Blue" or "Healey Blue" The BMC colour code is BU2. Yes, it has metal flakes in it, they are very small by todays standards. Go to the link below to see a somewhat better sample:

In the book "Original Austin-Healey, 100, 100-Six, and 3000" by A.D. clausager, it states under color combinations:
Healey Grey with blue interior, may be another name for Healey Blue; found only on early cars. No paint code.
Gunmetal Grey with red interior, 1953-1954, only around 50 cars were built in this color. No paint code.
Healey Blue with blue interior. Paint code BU.2
It is possible that it was the gunmetal grey color. Probably the Heritage Trust certificate will be the only sure way to tell.
