Original Hardtop fit on a BJ8?

I have a Hardtop that came with my BN4 and I am thinking of getting it painted to go with my BJ8 but I know that the convertible part of a BJ8 may interfer with the fit. Can I remove the convertible and get the hardtop to fit or will that leave an unfinished back of the car?

Hi Jerry,

Is the hardtop for a BN4? If so, then it is a completely different beast than what would fit/work on a BJ8. Cockpit rim, windscreen, and side windows are just too different.

side curtain hardtop won't fit a rollup window car. Parish is still in business as Smooth Line and their top will fit a roll up window car but is as ugly now as it was in 1966. I know, I have one. The rollup window factory hardtop is sometimes available as a replica. I have wondered if it could be modified with a bulge on the side so the soft top could fit under it. It might not look to bad when painted.
 
BJ 8 hardtops are hard to come by. I purchased a new one from the factory molds through Nykel Engineering in England and had it shipped to the US about 8 years ago. I had to arrange for the shipping and schedule clearance from the US Customs Service. Getting it together and onto the car was a time comsuming process, but it looks great. I believe Cape International (www.cape-international.com) carries hardtops for later 3000s and has a US distruibutor (I think in Philadelphia). If you want one you might give them a try. Nykel does not have a web address to my knowledge. JMH

hangtown, ive bee told that "parish" made a hard top for bj7-bj8 that did not require the removal of the soft top in order to install it.is yours like this? and yes the one i looked at was "uuggally" /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif
 
True on both counts. Painting black instead of body color helps.
