Original color or something else?

I'll be taking my MGA vintage racer project car to the paint shop this weekend and I'm pretty sure the painter will eventually want to know what color to spray. Here's the problem: I'm not really crazy about any of the original MGA roadster colors. The closest I can come is Mineral Blue, offered on the MGA coupe. On the other hand, when I ordered my new Mini, the color choices were so good that it took forever to decide on the one I liked best. The MGA is a "racing restoration" and not intended to be a concours show car, so I'm leaning towards Mini's "Pepper White", sort of an ivory. Am I ruining the value of the car by painting it a non MGA color?

Ruining the value??? Doubt it. Maybe lessoning. But as a racer it would have a different value anyhow.

If it were mine I would paint BRG especially since it is a racing car.

MGA Red or BRG both standard colours

Can't for the life of me see why you want to spend a fortune on a paint job on a racer.

It's got to be painted something - cannot race it in primer. I don't really plan to spend a fortune - unless the Pepper White paint is available only thru BMW/MINI. If that's the case then I'll pick something else. For what it's worth, my research indicates that MGAs were not available in BRG, at least for US bound cars, from the factory.

Go for it....if you don't like the original colours then pick one you do like, it's your car! In case Pepper White is unavailable, you could always use Old English White, which is also an Ivory shade.

So, Pepper White is what it's called! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Pondering a possible white respray of my Midget, and the 'Old English White' (aka Pepper White) of the new MINI and the same shade of white on the SMART cars are, in my humble opinion, even better 'Old English' than the original.
Since I've gotten quite fond of the PO's stripe down the center, I reckon Pepper White/black stripe would look great.
Paint and be happy, as has been said; It's your car. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Pepper White it will be. I haven't given any serious thought to stripes, but whatever it might be will be very simple. The MGA has such a nice shape it doesn't need "help" to look good.

Amen to that. They are absolutely beautiful little cars! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif

I agree, a stripe on an MGA would like too much makeup on a beautiful lady.

Hi If you want it in white why not use MG Old English White.
Good luck with your project. Regards John.
Sorry should have read all feed back before puting my bit in. My MGB is in Old English White.
