Original Cigarette Lighter

I have finally brought my car over to Brussels from the UK and can now start playing with it.

A PO has fitted a cigarette lighter, but the knob, judging by its style appears to be from a later type of British car. It looks ok but I suspect the original was probably different. My car is a 1956 100-Six and cigartte lighters were an option from the DHMC at that time.

Has anyone seen an original and could tell me what they look like - or better - send a photo. I imagine they are very rare from that era.

Bill Tracy sells an "Owls Eye" Cigar Lighter (reproduction) that is correct for 50's Jags. Don't know if this is what Healeys used but it is Brit and period correct. I haven't seen one of these in person but the Jag things I have bought from Bill have been of reasonable quality. He has the lighters on eBay now. eBay item number 250771081926.

Derek - that ebay item 250771081926, is definitely close in the appearance to the lighter shown in the Canadian BMC accessories list and to the BMC Approved Accessories list pub 5770 - 1/59-50m. But clearly not the same lighter as shown on your website and also my Longbridge when I bought it back in 1974.
I must assume that mine was a USA dealer option back in April 1957.

Thanks to the wonders of Peter Svilans incredible archive I now have a jpg of a Lucas ad from the period showing their cigarette lighter, it is the same shape as other switches found in Healeys at the time.

How do you attach photos?

I bought one from Moss. Here it is in the middle. Fog switch is on the right and the cable pull is for additional fresh air flap on the passengers side replacing the heater blower.

I have a gallon jug full of old cigarette lighters some where that I got from a guy I bought a XK140 OTS from. Guess I should dig it out and see whats in there.

Another Method DerekJ is:
" Copy" the image then "paste" it into your reply.-

Does anyone know what size hole these reproduction "owl eye" lighters go into? It doesn't say on the Bill Tracy site. My car has a chrome lighter already drilled into the dash so the hole is already there, if one of these fits it...
