Original MG steering wheel – 1970s (MGB / MG Midget)
Price: £120 ONO
Location: Belgium

Hello,

I’m offering an original MG steering wheel from the 1970s, suitable for MGB and MG Midget models.

This wheel belonged to my late father, who owned a Midget and later an MGB. It has been stored indoors for many years and is now looking for a second life with someone who will actually use or appreciate it.

Condition

  • Good original vintage condition
  • No cracks or structural damage
  • Original black vinyl rim with leather-grain texture (not leather, not re-covered)
  • Vinyl is soft, clean and well preserved, with no splits
  • Original red MG centre badge in excellent condition
  • Three brushed aluminium spokes (original matte finish)

The splined hub section is present, but the boss kit (adapter) required to fit it to the steering column is not included.
A suitable boss kit is readily available from Moss Europe, MGOC Spares, Limora, etc.

This would suit an authentic restoration or a period-correct MG interior, and also works well as a display piece.

Shipping

  • Located in Belgium
  • Tracked international shipping at cost via Bpost International Tracked
  • Typical shipping to the UK is around £25 tracked
  • Local collection possible by arrangement

Payment

  • PayPal or bank transfer

I’d much rather see this go to an MG enthusiast than have it sit unused any longer.
Happy to answer any questions or provide additional photos if needed.

Best regards,

Hello all,

I hope it’s okay to ask for a bit of advice here.

I’ve had quite a few views but no real expressions of interest so far, which makes me wonder whether I’ve misjudged something.

From your experience as MG enthusiasts, would you say this steering wheel is simply not very desirable, or am I likely off on the price?

I’m genuinely trying to do the right thing by passing it on to someone who could actually use or appreciate it, rather than letting it sit unused or eventually be discarded.

Any honest feedback would be very welcome — even if the answer is simply “it’s not worth much” or “these don’t really sell”.

Thanks in advance for your time and advice.

Thanks for the link, that’s very helpful and I see your point.

I agree that for UK buyers, import VAT and handling fees from the EU are a real deterrent — Brexit has definitely changed the equation for relatively common parts.

I would say my wheel is in slightly better cosmetic condition (centre badge and rim), and it does include the original splined hub, but I fully accept that condition alone doesn’t overcome market reality and extra costs.

That comparison does help put things into perspective, and I appreciate the honest input.

I’ll take this on board and adjust my expectations accordingly. Thanks again.

Just another thought. Have you got something similar to LeBonCoin that we have here in France?
I have sold a lot of car parts like that. Not sure what you have in Belgium.

Yes, there's a site similar to leboncoin.fr called 2ememain.be, but it mainly sells small clothes, Pokémon cards, board games, etc. All sorts of things that aren't car steering wheels – it's not a good channel for car steering wheels
