Original 1960'es Dunlop wire wheel paint code

Hi! My name is Kenneth, I live in Denmark.

I'll try this Forum to see if any luck here!

I have a 1964 Sunbeam Alpine.

I really do hope that some of you are able to help me with the original paint code for the Dunlop wire wheels, which among other British car manufactors The Rootes Group used for some of their vehicles back in the 60'es.

I'm in the process of restoring an original set of original Dunlop wire wheels, and actually I've been that for quite a while, since I can not find the needed infomation on the original paint code Dunlop used for their wire wheel. I've been told from a MGA guy, who claim to have an original paint can from ICI Belco P031-2358 (Meralichrome Aluminium) which he is quite sure is the correct and original colour, but I can not find any further paint info. anywhere, nor any people that can be of much help, in order to have the original paint mixed. Also I have a scan of an old Rootes Group wire wheel drawing, that says that the correct colour should be Platinum finish, which makes me even more confused!

Please let me know if anybody can be of any assistance, or maybe know someone who can.

Thank you very much.

Kind regards
Kenneth Hansen

My body and paint person is gone for the week. At one time he had the DuPont and Ditzler paint code for the wire wheels. I'll try to remember to ask him when he returns....Alan

Hi Alan

It looks like I might be a little closer to getting the original Dunlop wire wheel colour code. Please try and see if you can remember to ask him once he gets back next week. Also please let me know if you need my direct contact info. in order to make it easier!

Kind regards
Kenneth

Here is what we found: Centari GM code 12 85-91 B8501A . This is from an invoice in 2007 but I cannot remember which car. Most likely a 3000.

On another list there were several owners who stated that the (redundantly named) Honda paint color 'Argent Silver' was an excellent match.

Thanks every one for your fine contribution!

But what I'm searching for is not a wire wheel colour that looks like the original Dunlop colour. What I'm searching is the actual colour- and blend code that was used by Dunlop back in the 60'es.

At the moment it seems that Alan paint friend might have something useful next week. But still if any other have input I'm all ears!

Kind regards
Kenneth
