Just curious.
Installing a new valve cover gasket to fix an oil
leakage area. Here's a photo of my valve "rockers?"
What can the TR experts determine from visually seeing
this area of my engine?

History:
The previous owner make no oil changes during the 3-4
years he owned the car.

When I got the car, I changed the oil immediately, ran
the car for an hour or so and put it back in for another
oil change. Six months later a 3rd oil change and the car
is now operating on it's 4th oil change. Maybe slightly
over 400 miles on the 4th oil. A filter change every time.

What can be told from this photo, if anything?

Thanks,

D

It doesn't look too bad in there. Don't start messing with valve ajustment unles you are sure of what you are about to do.

Besides, you really can't tell much unless you remove the rocker assembly and inspect the shaft, tips of the arms and the tops od the valves. Not good to do unless you know what you are looking for.

Just a tip.....Don't get shipwrights here.

Install the gasket and the 3 stud seals seals and drive the car.

If Ben or David had heard something wrong, they would have adjusted the valves for you before they left.

Eh.. he had one valve that was a tad loud, but nothing that was horrible.
Dale, that looks pretty good in there (sludge-wise) I'd not have any worries if I popped off a valve cover to find that.

Thanks Paul- routine maintenance here.

Not doing a thing other than installing a new valve
cover gasket. All the experts here walked me thru
the valve adjustment process over a year ago. I've
got one tapping valve at start up but it goes away.
The engine sounds real smooth even to this rookie.

If you think about it, would you post the link again
that sells your special valve cover gasket?

My VC gasket was spitting oil pretty good- back
by cyl #6. I ordered the gasket back in Sept. when
Ben pointed it out to me.

as always,

d

Thanks Paul,

I think I will order one today.
Unless they wany $150 additional for shipping
to a foreign country!

Yes. But Justin's gasket will not fit an aftermarket aluminum valve cover. Just the original stamped steel cover.

He sends them out via USPS so shipping to anywhere is pretty inexpensive.

Oh my gosh Dale. By the looks of that picture you differential is shot. I'd have it rebuilt.

Very little sludge.. looks fine.

Your ultimate question: What can be told from this
photo, if anything?

Uhhh, well......you have your valve cover off???

Sorry, Dale, just another mechanic wanna be.
