Hello everyone! My name is nitro and I have recently come to this forum in order to ask a few questions and gain some insight on a car that has been in my family for the last 60 or so years.
In the mid 1960's my grandpa was stationed in Britain as part of the U.S. Air Force. While there he bought and imported an Austin Healey 3000 MkIII back to his home on Oahu, Hawaii. Driving it as sort of a bachelors car, I have heard stories of him often racing and beating other MG's on the island. When he met my grandma, he had a child and parked the car in order to start a family around the late 1970's. Since then this car has sat. It has never started or been driven since being parked 50 or so years ago. My grandpa had plans to fix up the car and restore it when he retired but unfortunately passed away only a year into his retirement in 1994.
About 10 years ago, my grandma sought to fix the car in remembrance of him. She sent the car to a mechanic who then promptly took money from her and attempted to steal the car by claiming it was abandoned on his property while doing no work to it. After proving ownership, the car was towed to another ship in downtown Honolulu where it began to be restored. During this time, my grandma passed away. Almost 3 years ago now, the mechanic suddenly called and said that he could no longer work on it and now it sits in my aunts garage, collecting dust and leaking oil.
Enter, me. A person who has little experience working on cars and a big dream: to one day see it running. With your help I hope to achieve this!
