online vs paper!

I wondered if any other BCF members are dealing with this:

Apply for whatever (mortgage, car loan, etc.) and see "We'll need to see hard copy proof of your income, bank account, and credit card balances" or something similar.

But ... you no longer get paper statements of income, credit balances, bank balances, etc. And the mortgage or car loan people won't accept screenprints, which can easily be faked.

How do you guys handle these increasingly frequent problems? I'm not comfortable giving the requester login info so they can directly access my online accounts.

Thanks.
Tom M.

You should be able to login to your account and then print a statement, etc to a pdf which you can then forward to the party requesting the information.
As long as you have accounts, you should have access to whatever you need.

Thanks Elliot. For me, accessing the account is no problem. But it's nearly impossible to print a "statement" when the info is in several different "panes" of windows, requiring scrolling, cutting and pasting, etc. The "statement" isn't a single document any more. The page shows activity, but no "running" or current balance unless you click on individual links.

Bank asks for Social Security Award Letter. SS hasn't mailed those in years. You have to log in to SS through the LOGIN.GOV website, enter password, then a verification code from a list SS sends you, then you only get bits and pieces of the info the bank needs.

Possibly look under "documents" tab on left to see if there's a listing for statements. I can't imagine that they don't provide one.

Ah yes - the Documents tab! Of course, why didn't I think of that!

(Unfortunately that just takes me to the same page I was on before, BUT - there's a download icon!)

Click download, then get a "we'll send a six digit verification code to your mobile". But the number is wrong. Can't change the number online, so have to call their business office. I'm now on a call back list, wait time "over 30 minutes - would you like us to call you back?"

Oh c'mon - this is ridiculous.

grumble grumble

Sounds good. That would probably put me in another "call me back" queue, but hey ... what the heck ...

Tom, last time I received an auto loan a couple of years ago all I had to do was unlock the credit bureau so they could check my credit score. Once they did that I locked it again. I can't remember the last time I was asked for copies of statements.

Thanks Bob. I live in Connecticut "the land of steady habits".

When I need a paper statement I usually just call my bank and they will email me a printable copy.

I have no idea how "online vs paper statements" turned into "a new BMW screw design".

Anyway, a follow up to the original topic. I finally got the phone callback - from a real person! Golly! When I asked for a paper statement, I was told "Sir, we charge $4.50 to send you a paper statement, and $3.00 to email you a pdf."

You have got to be kidding. Thanks but no thanks.
