I see some peoples icons are offline or online. Mine is always off. Why?

speaking of on/off line ... I've found BCF to be "unavailable" several times in the last few days?

BCF server troubles?

Anyone else experience this?

Thanks.

Except for the problem last week, I haven't experienced anything in the last few days, and, I'm on here several times a day.

I'm just back from a deep server loss by Verizon. Large area of Florida and parts of California affected.

feh. Nobody at TPC will tell us what happened... "If your service does not return in 24 hours, please call us back."

Yeah, sure. There'd be a discount amount in their check for the month if it took 24 hours to put it right. And I'd argue th' toss. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

See now Steve is off line when earlier when I posted he was on. I am shown as off but I know I'm on cause I'm typing this ain't I? - alright I know I'm off, a little.

Vince, I think in your preferences, there is a button to 'hide from other users' which will display you as offline all the time.

I'll bet you that if you go to "My Stuff" >> "My Preferences" and scroll down to the option "Hide from Whosonline?" it will say "yes". If so, then noone (but me) can tell when you are on the forum. Your user name will not show up in the "Who's Online" section (in teh box on the right, if you have those turned on) and also your online indicator icon will ALWAYS show offline. If you cnage that setting to "no" then your icon will show online when you are, in fact, on the forum.

Oh wait! No I ain't!

There be gremlins!

Just now, the little icon in the posts shows someone online, but when you look at the "Who's Online" link from the Portal Page, the same person doesn't appear.

Ain't technology great?

'Course, in the grand scheme of things, ain't no biggee. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

The who's online is not real-time. It is cached info and only updates every so often, (to keep the load on teh server down). So its possible to have someone online and not yet show up in teh online page, but still have their icon indicate online.
