one week driving trip from Tahoe to Grand Canyon

Re: one week driving trip from Tahoe to Grand Cany

Woops, thanks for the tip on the auto museum. That's a couple of hours we just rescheduled!

Re: one week driving trip from Tahoe to Grand Cany

I keep hearing about how crowded Yosemite is, I'm not too good with crowded traffic. I commute 35 miles each way into the DC area every day, and I sure don't want to spend my vacation in traffic! But we really want to see Yosemite, so I'll just grin and bear it. The northern part of California and the redwoods are definately our next trip, we want to start around San Francisco and head north. That probably comes next fall, and the following year a Zion to the Oregon border trip. Too much to see, too little time!!!!

Yosemite is far less crowded during the week. You could modify your trip somewhat, seeing the northern Sierras and visiting gold country on Sunday and hit Yosemite on Monday. I can't stand crowds either, and it's even worse when they are in a place so serene and remote as Yosemite Valley.

That's another good thought, back to the maps and the schedule! Steve, thanks for all of the help you've given us. Thanks to you, we're starting to make some sense out of it all.

Re: one week driving trip from Tahoe to Grand Cany

OK, Steve, we did it!! And thanks again to you and everybody for all of your help. We went from Reno (airport) to Tahoe, from Tahoe to Yosemite via 395, saw Yosemite and Lake Mono and Mammoth Lakes, had breakfast at The Stove, through the Bristlecones, down into Death Valley, (swam in a swimming pool at 6 PM and it was 104 degrees!) spent a day in Sedona and finished at the Canyon. We even found four natural hot springs along the way to soak in. The route was great thanks to you, and we had a great time - even saw a wolf!! Big deal for us easterners - wish we would have had the Healey on some of those roads. Thanks again from both my wife and I.
