I was in 9th grade and clearly remember watching this on TV as it happened live.

 
Me being one of the Ancients, I was entering my senior year at TCU. I had a 20x20 foot apartment (converted garage), and just for the moon landing I bought my first TV - a Sony 500U. I think I spent most of the day and night lying on the bed and watching the "dream of reaching the moon" come alive before my eyes. I still remember the picture overlay saying "Live from the Moon". Wow.

And I watched it on a black and white TV.
 
I to watched it on my portable Sony b&w TV in my dorm.

I was negotiating a real estate deal for a client at the home of her accountant in White Plains, NY. The deal never materialized. A wasted day.
 
Bas- When I saw your post of the girl reading the paper it reminded me that I have the actual NY Times front cover from that day. I saved it and had it framed some years ago and it now hangs in my office. Wonder if it's worth anything?

The moonwalk is my first TV memory. I remember everyone at my school being brought together in the assembly hall to watch it. Not sure if it was live or a later news report but i was only just seven at the time and had very little understanding of what it was all about.
 
My father thought it was a fake - a studio trick. Took him months to believe it really happened. And BTW, the earth is really flat. If it was round, people in Australia would fall off. I once sent Marilyn Vos Savant the science columnist a question - If you could sink an elevator shaft through the earth from New York to the Antarctic, when you came out out of the elevator, would you be standing on your head? She published it as a joke. I was serious.
 
Was a freshman in college, watched it all at the parents' house, along with soon-to-be First Wife. Mother was one of the: "it's faked" crowd. On the other hand the Old Man, my then girlfriend and I were all in awe of the accomplishment. What an amazing time to be alive.
 
I had just started my freshman year at the University of Tampa. About 6 or 8 of us rented a station wagon (remember them?) and drove to Cocoa Beach. We parked on the beach the night before the launch. Some of us slept in the car, some on the beach. It was an awesome event to witness the launch.
We had cut classes to go and I remember being reprimanded by one of my profs. as I told him "I'd do it again!"
